DIY Homemade Elderberry Syrup RecipeIngredients To Prepare Elderberry Syrup Recipe

  • Dried black elderberries: ⅔ cup (about 3 ounces)
  • Water: 3½ cups
  • Cinnamon powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh or dried ginger root: 2 Tablespoons
  • Cloves or Clove powder: ½ teaspoon
  • Raw honey: 1 cup

Instructions Elderberry Syrup Recipe

  1. Pour the water into a medium saucepan and add the elderberries, ginger, cinnamon and cloves (do not add the honey)
  2. Bring to a boil then cover and reduce to simmer for about 45 minutes to the hour till the liquid has decreased by almost half. At this time, separate from heat & let it cool sufficiently to be handled. Mash the berries using a spoon or other flat utensil. Pour through the sieve into a bowl or a glass jar.
  3. Discard the elderberries (or compost them!) And let the liquid cool to lukewarm. When it is no longer hot, add 1 cup of honey and stir well.
  4. When the honey is well mixed in the mixture of elderberries, pour the syrup into a quarter jar of masonry jar or a glass bottle of 16 ounces of a kind.
  5. Ta Da! You have just made homemade elderberry syrup! Store in the refrigerator and take it daily for its immune boosting properties. Some sources recommend taking only during the week and not the weekend to enhance immunity.
