7 Health Benefits of Tofu

People love eating tofu.

Tofu consists of bean curd of soybeans. It is prepared in a similar way to the way dairy cheeses, thus prepared in a traditional manner usually also referred to as tofu cheese.

Tofu, or bean curd, is indeed a popular food derived from soya. It is made by curdling fresh soya milk, pressing it into a solid block and then cooling it off, quite similar to traditional dairy cheese that is curdling and solidifying milk. The liquid (whey) is discarded, and the curds are thus pressed to form a cohesive bond. A staple ingredient in Thai and Chinese cookery, and it can also be cooked in different ways in order to change its texture from smooth and soft to crisp and crunchy.

Tofu has a spongy texture and is low in cholesterol but it can also help reduce one’s cholesterol levels. As part of the digestion process, it does absorb oil and other foods that can rather cause disease.

Since phytoestrogens act as a weak estrogen, they may also help to relieve symptoms by boosting levels slightly, reducing hot flushes in some women.
