Store Rice in Sealed Plastic Bags

One of the best ways to protect rice from insects is to store them in zipped or sealed plastic bags. If you have a large quantity of rice to be stored and prevented from insects you may not be able to store it in your freezer. In such a case, put the rice in sealed plastic bags to keep insects at bay.

Empty Your Food Cupboard

If the insects have already invaded your rice, then immediately empty your complete food store. Whatever portions have been infested tie them in the plastic bag and throw it away without delay. For the portions that you are not sure about, put them in your freezer for 4-5 days. For portions that you think are okay, put them in sealed plastic bags.

Spray Insecticide in Your Pantry Cabinets

After emptying the food cupboard, wash its cabinets with warm and soapy water. Rinse the pantry thoroughly with the help of a dish rag or sponge. Allow the cabinets to dry up. Buy an effective insecticide which kills rice weevils. After the cabinets have completely dried up, spray them properly and thoroughly with the insecticide. Close the cupboard cabinets for about 4-6 hours.

Put Everything Back in Your Food Cupboard

Take out the rice from the freezer after the period of 4 days and put them too in sealed plastic bags or containers. Also put the portions of rice that you had kept in the sealed plastic bags.
