How to Stop Worrying: 9 Simple Habits

Worry can be very nagging and nagging thoughts are what worry is all about. More worrying thoughts, more anxiety one experiences and this can make life very miserable. One loses out on a lot of mental and physical energy. An agonizing feeling makes one feel life is full of ups and downs and one has to work hard to cope up with it.

What do we worry about?

1. Most of the things you worry about have never happened.

We worry about things that do not really happen at all. We need to reflect upon these things that we worried about and it did not really happen at all. Those that may have occurred could have been very painful and terrible experiences. Worries and concerns are issues we tend to build up in our minds. They may not be factual.

One has to get rid of negativity and try to stay calm.

2. Avoid getting lost in vague fears.

Exaggerated worries can affect one’s lifestyle.

One must ask oneself what worse can happen. One can waste time and energy on thinking as to what one should do if such a thing happened. Clarity in thoughts help save energy and one can lead a full life.

3. Do not try to guess what is on someone’s mind.

It is better to avoid reading another person’s mind. It is better to select what is less likely to lead to worries or even misunderstandings. It is important to be able to communicate and also ask what one wants to ask. This helps in promoting a healthy relationship. By doing so you’ll promote openness in your relationship and it will likely be happier as you avoid many unnecessary conflicts and negativity.

4. Say stop in a situation where you know you cannot think straight.

When one is not able to think straight it is better to stop thinking completely. One may not be able to resolve issues at times and starts worrying unnecessarily. It is better to avoid thinking and then after a while again to raise the issue. One can defer issues or late time when there is more clarity in thought.

5. People do not think about you and what you do as much as you may think.

People do not have the time to think about another person as they have more time to think about another person or their pet or their family affairs. They are occupied with other personal issues and do not spend time thinking about others.

It is better to avoid worrying about what others think about you. Avoid getting lost in such thoughts. It will hold you back in life.

6. Work out.

Work out is good to remove anxieties and worries and concerns. One has to get rid of inner worries. One is more focused on issues and also one’s energy level goes up so that one feels positive about life.

7. Let your worry out into the light.

It is good to discuss your worry with a close friend as it lightens you up and you will feel less concerned about it. One is able to see the situation in the better limelight.

Just venting out one’s thoughts for a few minutes can make a big difference and after a while, one may start to wonder what you were so worried about in the first place.

Sometimes, it is possible that the other person may only have to listen to you yourself work through the situation yourself out loudly.

At times, it can be very helpful to allow the other person to ground you and help you find a rather more practical and useful perspective on the situation at hand.

In case, one does not have anybody to talk to then one can write about it and get it out of one’s mind. It calms one down.

8. Spending more time in the present moment.

Reliving too much in the past can feed the future worries. When you spend too much time in the future then it is also easy to get swept away by disaster scenarios. One must not worry about future or live in the past. It is better to focus on present moments.

9. Refocus on the smaller steps to move forward.

Simply worrying does not help. It is better to move forward in life. One must try to solve the issues that are worrying one.
