15 Common summer diseases and ways to prevent 

Summer diseases are several and need to be treated properly. Summer infection has to be prevented and necessary precautions need to be taken in order to avoid such diseases.

Summer is very warm that too from March to June usually being the summer months of the year. The season is usually dry, warm and hot. Diseases do crop up during this season. Summer infection is common and summer diseases can cause much discomfort.

What sort of health issues does one face during the summer?

Heatstroke:

The rise in body temperature on account of prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to heatstroke. An abnormal rise in one’s body temperature or hyperthermia along with physical and behavioral symptoms such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, muscle cramps, fast heartbeat, and fever are noticeable.

Food poisoning

Harmful bacteria, as well as parasites, are the common cause of food-borne diseases. The warm, humid weather does provide a fertile environment for bacterial growth leading to food contamination.

Sore eyes

Sore eyes or conjunctivitis are due to viral or bacterial infection or allergy that does lead to inflammation of the conjunctiva and in fact persists for 4-7 days. They are commonly viral and affect entire families together.

Summer depression

Change in climatic conditions and an increase in climatic temperature can lead to mood swings in some people.

Dehydration

This happens to be a common problem that does occur in summer when water intake does not compensate for water loss. During summers, one tends to lose a lot of water and salts in the form of sweat without realizing it. This does need to be replenished for the normal functioning of the body.

Headache:

summer headaches are fairly common as a result of dehydration. Mumps happens to be a contagious and threatening viral disease that tends to become rampant during summers. It can indeed be transmitted when an infected person sneezes or coughs into neighboring people. It does affect the parotid gland in front of the ears, causing severe swelling, pain as well as fever. Summer diseases need to be treated.
Asthma attack- due to pollen in the air is another summer infection.

Chickenpox

the virus flourishes in warm weather and affects masses.

Flu

Flu is one of the common diseases of summer days.
Water-borne diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, and typhoid.

Ways to Prevent and Manage Diseases during Summer

As summer approaches are cautious and prevent yourself from the harmful effects of the warm and hot weather. Ensure to take precautions against excessive heat for a secure summer.

Drink plenty of water and increase fluid intakes such as coconut water, buttermilk, and lemon water, both at home and while traveling to keep yourself hydrated. Ensure you have at least 10-12 glasses of liquids all day, not including alcohol.

Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothes as dark-colored clothes absorb more heat and tight clothes do not let your body sweat. Opt for light and absorbent materials like cotton.

3. While traveling or during outdoor activities, one needs to avoid heavy exercise; seek shade as well as rest.

4. Never leave the child sitting in a car exposed to the hot sun and try to park the vehicle under the shade.

Apply ice packs and pain relievers for comfort if having sunburns caused due to sun rays.
Wash one’s hands properly and follow general hygiene rules while handling food.
Wash the hands before touching or cooking any food items to prevent food and water-borne infections. Wash the hands every time one visits the washroom.
