3 Methods to Remove Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails look to be the craze these days, but removing them may be a bit challenging if you haven’t taken proper care of them. The good news, however, is that you have arrived at the right page if you’re wondering how to remove acrylic nails because we’re going to show you not one but two ways to get the job done.

How to Remove Acrylic Nails:

Method 1 – Things you will need

  • Nail clipper
  • Nail polish remover
  • Glass bowl
  • Olive oil
  • Moisturizing lotion
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Clean towel
  • Orange wood stick
  • Nail file
  • Nail buffer

Steps:

For the first step, you will want to start with trimming the nails down as short as probable and carefully so that you don’t hurt yourself. It will make the process easier and quicker as there will be fewer acrylic nails to clean up.

The second step is only getting a glass bowl and filling it partly with acetone nail polish remover, and setting it aside before taking any substances or lotions on your hands.

The third step is using the nail file to buffer the nails to remove the gloss. Make sure you move around the nail frequently and uniformly, and not focus on a single spot. Clean off the dust once you have completed this step.

The fourth step of removing acrylic nails with method 1 is applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the skin that is in contact with the nail bed. It will ensure your skin has preserved from the acetone nail polish remover. It is best to practice more petroleum jelly than to save out on it.

In step 5, you want to dip your-your nails in the bowl of acetone nail polish remover for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until the glue that binds the acrylic nail to the natural nail bed starts to come off.
When the glue has detached after dipping the nails in acetone nail polish remover, you will notice that the nails have gotten mushy. So gently try to exclude the acrylic nail, & if you feel some resistance, repeat step 5. Everything you do, never attempt to force or pry your acrylic nails off because it can cause some severe damage to the nail and also point to the infection.

In step 6, remove your acrylic nails and wash your hands thoroughly with water to get rid of the petroleum jelly & the acetone nail polish remover from the hands.

If there’s any leftover glue, just use a buffer to remove it.

Step 7 is the last step and involves applying cuticle oil or olive oil to moisturize the nails after being dried out by the entire nail removal process.

How to Remove Acrylic NailsMethod 2 -Things you will need:

  • 12 inches of floss
  • Metal file

Steps:

  1. This method of removing acrylic nails is relatively straightforward, but you will require two people to do it. It is faster, but not prescribed for those who suffer from skin or brittle nails.
  2. In the first step, take the metal nail file & use it at the tip of the nail to lift it just sufficient to slip the dental floss underneath it.
  3. Wrap-around 12 inches of dental floss around the index finger of each hand of the second person.
  4. Now slip the floss under the point you created in step 1.
  5. Get the second person to pull gently towards the end of the nail bed in a sawing motion.
  6. The acrylic nail should pop right off.
  7. The second method is certainly much quicker, but can cause far more injury than the first way. But these are the best solutions to how to remove acrylic nails at the house, without attending a nail salon.

Method 3 – Remove acrylic nails with acetone

Today we are going to encourage you to remove an acrylic nail in the natural ways, i.e. using acetone.

Note: If you are not patient complete, then the process will damage your natural nails and your nail bed. Therefore take your time and slowly proceed.

Things you would need:

  • Nail cutter/ nail trimmer.
  • Acetone.
  • Hot water.
  • Cotton.
  • Tweezers.
  • Lots of patience.

Step wise Procedure

Step 1: Using a nail trimmer or nail cutter, trim your acrylic nails to the shortest possible length. It will decrease the removal time.

Step 2: Dip the cotton ball in the acetone and remove any nail polish/ top coat/ base coat from your acrylic nails. This action will assure that the hands does not catch any color from the nail polish once it is removed. If you dip your nails directly within acetone with the nail polish, then the hands will be slightly colored, or the nail polish might stick to the hands. This step prevents any mess.

Step 3: Take a bowl filled with acetone & place it in another bowl containing hot water. It is too warm the acetone slightly.

Step 4: Dip your hands in the acetone extract. Keep the hands in the solution for 20-25 minutes or till the acrylic nails grow softer.

Step 5: Take the hand out of the solution & using tweezers; gently peel off the acrylic nails. If you find that they are not getting peeled off, do not pull. Just dip the hands in acetone for few more minutes.

Step 6: After all the acrylic nails get peeled off; apply cuticle oil to your nails. It will ensure that the natural nails are not damaged.

Step 7: This step is optional. If you want, one can apply a moisturizer to the hands as acetone dries out your skin.

It is the simplest of ways to remove acrylic nails without harming your natural ones. Post removal, make sure you regularly moisturize and hydrate your hands.
